The Genera of British Moths Vols I & II by H Noel Humphreys - 1st Edition - 1860 - from E C Books and Biblio.com

The Genera of British Moths Vols I & II

by H Noel Humphreys

Condition: Good/N

London : Paul Jerrard and Son, 1860 A good copy of the 2 volume work in one, with original decorative cloth binding and 62 hand coloured plates. All page edges gilt. Undated but 1860 1st edition. The binding has beveled edges and has a bright gilt decorated front board and back board with blind stamped design. It has been rebacked to provide a new plain spine, which has a leather title label. There is some wear to corners but the binding is tight and sound. Internally the endpapers are new. Contents: frontispiece; title page to Vol I; preface; introduction; text pp 1-76 with 29 further colour plates; half title Vol II; text pp 77-196 with 32 colour plates; methods of preserving specimens pp 197-200; index 201-206. Plates are generally very bright and clean, but without tissue guards. Text pages have sporadic foxing and there has been damage to some page edges - presumably the book was disbound at some point. Title page to Vol I has repair to side edge and gutter and the frontispiece has gutter repair. Page 1 and 75 have some margin loss. Some pages have browning to the top edge.
