Bound in contemporary or near contemporary half leather (calf) with marbled boards and two gilt embossed black title blocks to the spine. Five raised bands to the spine. The textblock remains very clean and tight with all 17 map plates present. Sadly missing the folding frontispiece. It does have an oval print of Henry Skrine - probably albumen and therefore dating from 1850 pasted to the preliminary blank page with the author's name (Henry Skrine Esqre) below in a neat black ink nineteenth century hand. Very occasional light foxing (probably heaviest - and in no way heavy to the title page) and some light offsetting from the map plates. No half-title page. The maps are all bound together at the rear. Here bound without the half title page. There is a hole to the lower outer corner of the folding plate that serves as a frontispiece, but this does not affect either the text or the image. Paper repair to an old tear to the rear of the plate also. Title page browned, light browning to pages throughout, some staining here and there. In old full leather binding, but with a replacement lettering label to the spine..

Rebacked, preserving nearly all of the original spine, which is ruled and decorated in gilt. Rubbing at edges and corners, but a strong and sturdy binding overall. 412 pp., with the full complement of 17 maps, but lacking the folding portrait frontispiece.
