Newcastle upon Tyne: S Hodgson, R Beilby, & T Bewick, 1790 A fair copy of the 1st edition of Bewick's History of Quadrupeds in contemporary half leather binding with numerous engravings by Bewick. Classed as 'fair' principally because the binding is very worn - the front board is detaching and the back board joint is weak. The spine is delaminating. There is a red leather title label to spine and some tape protection to board edges. There is an armorial bookplate 'Howell' to the front pastedown. Contents: title page with vignette, advertisement, index, text pp 1-452, Addenda to p456, finis. It is generally clean internally but with the odd spot or mark. There is a persistent brown spot which appears on the title page and lasts to p8; a brown splot at p276 and light staining in the bottom margin of pp398-420. There is some staining to the rear endpaper. There is a paper repair in the margin of p27 and a small paper tear to the top margin of p401.

New York: Printed by G. & E. Waite, No. 64, Maiden-Lane, 1804. First American edition. x, 531 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Modern half brown morocco and cloth by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Occasional light spotting, old signature of William S. Barnes on title. Anderson, Alexander. First American edition. x, 531 pp. 1 vols. 8vo.
