Description: Dust jacket art by Arthur Shilstone. A novel about the flower growers of California. Evelyn Wells wrote a good deal on California, both fiction and nonfiction. According to the author blurb on the jacket, she was born and raised in San Francisco (I believe this to be a fib of convenience; the Wiki article has further information). She was married for many years to one of the Podestas, the great West Coast flower-growing family. One of her nonfiction books was a biography of Fremont Older, the great fighting editor of San Francisco, whom she worked under.
