The Gentle Kingdom of Giacomo

by Wells, Evelyn

Condition: See description

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, 1953. Hardbound . Book Club Edition. BINDING/CONDITION: dark green boards; the top edge tint is light yellow; a Near Fine book, with a Near Fine dust jacket. Dust jacket art by Arthur Shilstone. A novel about the flower growers of California. Evelyn Wells wrote a good deal on California, both fiction and nonfiction. According to the author blurb on the jacket, she was born and raised in San Francisco (I believe this to be a fib of convenience; the Wiki article has further information). She was married for many years to one of the Podestas, the great West Coast flower-growing family. One of her nonfiction books was a biography of Fremont Older, the great fighting editor of San Francisco, whom she worked under. 8vo (about 8.5 inches tall) 316 pages.
