About This Item

Hart Davis, London, 1960. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. 355g; VI, 162 pages, last two pages blank. Red coloured boards with the black titles to the backstrip. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and to the top book corners. Browning and foxing to the text block edges, with the top text block edge being worse than the others. Browning, light foxing and a hint of offset pertaining to the endpapers. Age toning to the internal pages. There is an inscription to the free front end paper. Original illustrated dust jacket featuring a reclining skeleton, against a grey background with white titles to the front panel and backstrip. Rubbing and slight chipping to the top dustwrapper corners and rubbing to the lower dustwrapper corners. Rubbing and chipping to both the top and bottom backstrip edges. The backstrip and part of the rear dustwrapper panel have become brown and a little foxed. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. Browning to the verso of the dustwrapper, confined to the backstrip and fold over crease areas, and scattered foxing is also noted. The author sought out the ex-convicts who had built new lives for themselves and found that, however prosperous, powerful and even respectable they had become, they could never quite stifle a yearning for adventure. Most of the book consists of the story of one man, who committed a crime passionel in his youth and was transported to the penal settlement on the Maroni. -- front fold over blurb. First English Translation. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Dust Jacket price-clipped. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams.
