New York: The Derrydale Press, 1939. First Edition. First Edition, two volumes. One of 1250 numbered copies (each being No. 711). In a Good only example of the rare slipcase, with the corresponding No. 711 at the bottom of the spine.
Author Charles H. Baker traveled the world collecting recipes, and writing for magazines such as "Esquire," "Town & Country," and "Gourmet." A classic of culinary literature, "The Gentlemen's Companion" is as much a travel log as recipe book, often detailing the people, places, and events surrounding Baker's first encounter with a particular dish or cocktail.
Both volumes Near Fine, with no dust jackets as issued. Touch of rubbing to the spines, and minor soil. Slipcase Good, with near complete separation to the top and bottom hinges, and half the bottom panel, but complete, with professional tissue paper repairs to the interior, and soiling and light dampstaining.
