Boston: Printed and Published by S. Walker, Newbury-Street, 1823. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Two volumes (vol. 1 is dated 1823; vol. 2 is dated 1821). Translated and with explanatory notes by William Whiston, revised by Samuel Burder. Quartos. Each volume with a title page printed in red and black. With 20 engraved plates: vol. 1 has 15 plates (including the frontispiece portrait of Josephus and one folded plate); vol. 2 has 5 engraved plates (including the frontispiece view of Jerusalem). Laid-in is an octavo letterpress sheet "Directions for placing the plates". Bound in contemporary calf, dark red spine labels lettered in gold, edges sprinkled dark blue. Modest scattered foxing, a few small nicks and scuffing to the spine of vol. 2, overall very good. Each volume has a contemporary custom made legal calf (or sheep) protective jacket, French folded over the boards and hand-stitched in place vertically across the pastedowns from the top and bottom flaps.
