Hollywood: Radco Publishers, 1948. Hardcover. 247p., hardbound in 7.5x5 inch grey cloth boards with sepia titling, in dust jacket. The casebound book is clean and unmarked though paperstock is toned, and quite sound and square despite its rather flimsy casing, while the dj (unclipped) is somewhat worn and sunned. A very good copy. Sample quote: "They say you're bein' paid by the Catholic Church to instill Catholicism in the minds of the school children. They say you must be guilty of some serious crime or you nevah would have been travelin' with a carnival! They say you're a foreigner and a yankee and they's no room for you heah!" Lauria was a Connecticut-born writer who traveled for six years through the South with a carnival experiencing at close hand the Ku Klux Klan and the racism of the South in the 1920s. He went on to become a radio personality and actor/comedian. His first book was vindicated in a New York obscenity trial.
