About This Item

Saratoga Springs, NY: Midlife Musings, 1992. 6th Printing [stated]. Trade paperback. Very good. Frances Weaver. [2], 116, [2] pages. Wraps, illustrated by the author. Signed by the author on the title page. Autographed book sticker on front cover. The author's return to college at fifty-nine sparked a new career as a columnist, lecturer, and inveterate traveler. She runs her own company, Midlife Musings. Foreword by Lorraine Davis, Managing Editor, VOGUE Magazine. The author addresses this book to the women her age, widowed or married, who are intrigued by the possibility of changing lifestyles to take advantage of opportunities. Widowed when she was in her mid-50s, with four grown children, Weaver quickly learned that to make the most out of her remaining years, she had to change her life dramatically. The advice she offers here is directed primarily to middle-class women who find themselves in a similar situation. Stating that ""boredom is ninety-nine percent self-inflicted,"" she stresses the importance of making oneself, rather than family or married friends, the focus of future activities, and recommends education and travel as ways to develop new interests. Although Weaver deals with the emotional problems of widowhood, her practical comments and suggestions are useful.
