Unknown, 1550. The full title is: Gli Otto Libri di Thucydide Atheniese, Delle Guerre Fatte Tra popoli Della Morea, et Gli Atheniesi con Ogni Diligenza Tradotto, per Francesco di Soldo Strozzi Florentino. This is an early printed edition of 1550 made in Venice of the Italian translation of the famous History between Athens and the Pleoponnesus (Morea). Thucydises lived between 460BC and 399BC. Binding is vellum wit abbreviated title in gilt on the spine, the page edges have been dyed a greenish color - both are probably not original but later additions, illustrated with a few wood cuts, 440 text pages. This volume contains all eight books bound together. Cover shows general soiling and light wear for its age. Inside the end papers a bit wrinkled and sever three digit numbers have been written on the front paste down, green dyed page edges have been rubbed of color in spots, very occasional corner crease. A very nice copy of this scarce early work. The book is now protected in a custom made blue cloth covered clam-shell box. Images available. USPS tracking used on all domestic shipments. Francesco was a 16th century noble who was appointed as secretary of the Roman Court Ambassador of Emperor Maximilian. He was also known as translator from both Greek and Latin. His name is sometimes transcribed as Di Soldo Strozzi, Francesco and Soldo Strozzi, Francesco di.
