Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing only the very mildest wear. Bright and Clean. Virtually 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8 x 5.45 x 1 inches. 360 pages. Language: English. Weight: 14 ounces. Reprint Edition (1991); First Printing Thus. First published in 1981. Trade Paperback. The biography of an age is the expansive cover description and so it is. Lenin, Wilde, Tolstoy, the Kaiser, Chekov. Certainly the best work of nonfiction (witty, blackly humorous) in the 20th century, a laurel he shares with Robert Caro's Path to Power. Few I know have read this devastating beauty and I like that--the notion of a cult following for Gerhardie! Gerhardie, by the way, was one of the most critically acclaimed English novelists of the 1920s (Evelyn Waugh told him, "I have talent, but you have genius."). H.G. Wells championed his work.
