"In 1793 Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe ordered a road cut through the wilderness of Upper Canada - a military link westward from Lake Ontario and a spur to settlement. The settlers did come; they and their buildings are the subject of this book. The road became the spinal cord of southwestern Ontario.
