Jones was a British architect, designer, and design theorist of the 19th century, pivotal in the formation of V & A through his connection with Henry Cole, the museum's first director. He also was responsible for the interior decorations and layout of exhibits for the Great Exhibition building (1851), which, in fact, formed the basis of this book's original publication in 1856.
