Roberts Brothers, 1898. hard cover. Good. Boston: Roberts Brothers. 1898. Hardcover, no jacket. xv+462pp. Brown buckram boards with gilt/silver chessboard decoration and titling. Top edge gilt. Good+ condition. Boards have moderate grime and shelfwear; tips are bumped and fabric frays a bit at top of spine. Internally there are some light foxing spots, primarily to the endpapers. Otherwise the book is clean and unmarked.  The binding is a bit cocked. The contents are securely bound. "In this volume is presented a complete system of chess-play. This system is deduced from the play of the greater Masters; and those processes by which they gained their renown are herein formulated and put into language for the first time." (cfm)

Brown cloth on boards, gilt titles and silver & gilt chess set on front of cover. Light dusting of rubbing and faint soiling. Spine: thin bumping & cracks to head; bottom of spine with 5 x 3cm section missing revealing binding page folds. Light rubbing to some of the extremeties. Boards fore corners with light bumping and mild wear. Edges: gilt top-edge; moderate foxing & soiling to fore and bottom edges. Eps: light sprinkles of foxing; head ffep with olde style signature. Small booksellers sticker to rep foot. A few pges with small faded smudge to margins. Binding is VG albeit feels a touch loose. 462p. First Edition. Hb. VG/None.
