New York: W. J. Watt & Company, 1921. First Edition. Very Good/GoodDJ. 12mo = 7-9". Gray cloth over hard covers with dark gray lettering. Endpages show foxing, darker on rear free endpaper. Page edges browned, four small stains on page edges that bleed slightly into margins of pages, brown stain in corner of pages 48-62, pages 48-54 have more extensive staining with brown spots, otherwise pages clean though slightly browned. Top/bottom spine edges slightly bumped, sligh browning along edges. Binding is good. Dj has 1/4" piece misg from top edge, small part of top of spine also missing. A few small tears at corners and top edges, darkened, numbers in pencil on spine. An unusual detective story. "The Gray Phantom was created by Herman Landon, the creator of Picaroon & Godfrey Usher; The Phantom appeared in Detective Story Magazine starting with "Seven Signs". The Phantom is Cuthbert Vanady, and he is a handsome devil, tall, lanky, with a 'lean, clean-chiseled' face and ash-grey eyes to match the gray at his temples and his gray business suits. The Phantom is more than just good-looking, of course. He's a criminal mastermind." Pulp and Adventure Heroes; G, Geocities.

First Edition. (1993) Hardcover with d.j. Fine with near fine dust jacket. D.J. has slight curl on top edge and light rubbing on back. No worn edges. Tight binding with clean, sharp pages. No markings. 305 pages. Dolores Claiborne is a psychological thriller novel. The novel is narrated by the title character. Atypically for a King novel, it has no chapters, double-spacing between paragraphs, or other section breaks; thus the text is a single continuous narrative which reads like the transcription of a spoken monologue. This book is dedicated to King's mother: "For my mother, Ruth Pillsbury King."

Description:
Collins White Circle Pocket Edition #228. Great 1940s cover! Colonel Anthony Gethryn must prove a man innocent of a murder he's been convicted for in only 5 days. MacDonald was a great practitioner of the mystery-suspense genre; his books remain readable, even if his characters are nowhere near as enlightened as we tend to be today. Please read this volume in its historical context. A very clean copy, spine slightly darkened with very faint reading crease: see photos.
