"Between the time that Truman, then ignorant of the atomic project under way at Los Alamos, became President of the United States and the date of the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima, 116 days elapsed. This was the period during which the great decision was arrived at - a decision which has since cruelly exercised the conscience of America and, in ratio to ther share of responsibility, Great Britain. Lucidly and methodically Michael Amrine chronicles, step by step, the events, political and scientific, which led up to the fateful day." "Mr. Amrine worked with the Federation of Atomic Scientists and the Atomic Energy Commission, and was managing editor of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists."
