About This Item

London: National Alumni, 1905. AUTOGRAPH EDITION. Set #18 of only 100. Signed and Sealed. FIRST EDITION / FIRST PRINTING. There were only 100 sets of this Autograph Edition, making this set exceedingly scarce. Some were issued in cloth. This in the full morocco leather version. This is the complete Autograph Edition, issued the year before all of the many subsequent editions issued over the subsequent years. The bindings of each volume are unique to each volume, but are uniform in their design. All are ornately decorated in gilt. The binding of each volume is a facsimile of the binding of an important book from the period of history with which that volume is concerned. Each binding is custom to it's volumes contents. Each volume contains a colored frontis page. The top page edges are gilded. The fore-edges and bottom edges are deckle-edged. Bound in full morocco leather bindings. Each cover is unique. Gilded spines. Printed on quality paper. With wide margins. The pages are uncut. These measure 9.5 inches tall. 34 inches of shelf space. In VERY GOOD condition overall, but there is some external wear. Some chips, as shown. Some external starting, but held firmly by the underlying binding, a little tattered in appearance. This set displays beautifully. The hinges are extra reinforced internally by the publishers. There is no writing. Very fresh, bright, and clean. Just the external shelf wear, as mentioned. This is a rare and impressive collection. Each volume in it's own custom binding. Limited to only 100 sets ever produced. This set is exceedingly rare. These display exceptionally well. This set would make an excellent gift and/or addition to any fine library. In addition to their shelf presence, antiquarian books make an excellent investment. We always pack very securely to help ensure safe handling during transit. All books are individually wrapped and are always professionally padded. We offer a full refund guarantee, per our terms described on our site, with notification of such intent requested. Please contact us with any inquiries.
