Ellis was an Associate of the Institute of Locomotive Engineers and he covered a broad range of railway subjects in his books. This work combines Ellis' knowledge of the railways with his creative spark. Lacking dustwrapper, which is not uncommon. Frontispiece has been removed. An authors note states that the characters and a few places described in this work are imaginary and 'although the railway companies and certain engines are also fictitious the railways themselves and the various engineering works concerned are real. The West Highland Line is there to be explored, though the author does not recommend a walk across Rannoch Moor in a storm. ' Condition: In publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Cloth had faded and has several handling marks. Bumping to the extremities in addition to the head and tail of spine. Patches of light rubbing to the joints. Internally, firmly bound.
