Boston: Houghton Mifflin / Riverside Press, 1891. 1st edition. A guide to the work of Victorian poet and playwright Robert Browning (1812-1889.) xvi, 450 pages. 8vo, approx. 7.75 x 5.25 inches. Smooth green cloth. Gilt spine lettering and top page edge. VG with modest wear. Sound binding. Provenance: Judaica bookplate of Heman Packard Deforest (1839-1914), an 1866 graduate of Yale Divinity School, later an author, historian and Protestant minister in Massachusetts and Michigan. Bookplate features a seven-candle menorah with the Christian trinity knot incorporated in the borders.
