About This Item

The First UK printed by Heinemann in 1907. The BOOK is in Very Good+ condition. The book retains the original publisher's boards with gilt titling and decoration to the the front cover. Some pushing at the spine ends with a little splitting. Mild splitting at the rear spine folds but the binding remains tight. Some rubbing at the corners. Age related markings to the boards with a ring mark to the front cover. The gilt titling to the spine and front panel remains bright. The green text-block stain remains vibrant. Early splitting to the front hinge. Two previous owner's penned names (one crossed through) to the lower front blank end-paper. A further penned name to the upper title page. Light offsetting and spotting to the prelims, otherwise the book is clean. Tissue guard to frontis is still present and is offset. Mild creasing to the page corners in some places. The book is protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. Despite its faults, this book is in remarkably good condition for its age and of the three copies we have handled in the last 10 years, this is certainly the nicest. Escoffier's recipes, techniques and approaches to kitchen management remain highly influential today, and have been adopted by chefs and restaurants not only in France, but also throughout the world. Accompanied by a loosely inserted 4 page pamphlet "Escoffier Limited' which details Escoffier preparations which could be purchased. The pamphlet is a little age marked but is complete. Collectible. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
