Fredericton N.B.: New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources, 1984. illustrated, card wraps, 15pp. (plus 14 ppp of related information laid-in) "The purpose of thinning a sugar bush is to provide additional growing space to selected crop trees by removing trees that interfere with crop-tree development. A thinning program reduces the crown cover temporarily, but crown expansion of the crop trees soon fills the gaps created. It may therefore be necessary to thin through a maple stand two or three times until the desired final stand density is reached on the way from a young stand to a mature sugar maple stand. Without thinning, the development of a sugar bush will be slow, and the health and productivity of all trees will suffer. Thinning improves the health of the selected crop trees and increases both sap volume and sugar content." ( from the text). Paper Covers. Very Good. 4to.,. Paperbound.
