Completely hand-printed and designed by artist George Herms for an exhibition of his work at the University of California, Davis campus. Flyer announces a series of events including a poetry reading by beat poet Michael McClure, a film entitled Lightwork One by Marilynne Mason and special guest poet Robert Duncan. Flyer measures 8.5 x 11". Folded once for mailing. Comes in original hand-addressed envelope mailed to publisher John Martin and his wife Barbara. Flyer undated, but datestamp on envelope is 1970. Nice piece of beat-era ephemera.

[Los Angeles]: Warner Playhouse, 1968. Unbound. Fine. Poster. Photographically illustrated on thin card stock printed in red, black. Approximately 8½" x 14½". A bit skinned on the verso where tape has been removed, else very near fine. Poster for the 1968 Los Angeles premiere of the play, where it had migrated after productions had been shut down in both New York and San Francisco for the simulated oral sex scene in the play. The cast of the L.A. production were arrested 14 nights in a row. In a letter to Stan Brakhage in September 1968, McClure complained, "I'll have to return to L.A. for the opening of the trial of Beard, which starts September 16." The poster was designed by Wallace Berman, publisher of *Semina* and considered by some as the "Father of Assemblage Art," who also provided the photograph of his bare-breasted wife Shirley seen holding a worn pair of boots which graces the poster. The volume includes the poem "To James B. Rector," to whom the play was dedicated. Rector was killed in Berkeley on "Bloody Thursday" by Alameda County Sheriff deputies on May 19, 1969. Morrow & Cooney 77b. Deluxe Issue, one of 26 lettered copies specially bound, signed by the author with an original illustration, this being copy 'N'.
