About This Item
Signed by Author. A superb hand-written [un-dated] letter in blue ink on his engraved Oscar Hammerstein, 2nd letterhead to Vivian [Ellis] who created more than 60 English stage musicals and was behind many of the popular songs which thrilled listeners before and after WW2. The text is as follows: Quote: Dear Vivian, I have read Listen to the Wind And think it charming. I agree With Arthur that you should give it To his agent. It needs handling For American T.V. a few changes here and there. I have not, of course, heard your score but I am as- summing its quality. I like the lyrics very much indeed. See you At the end of the week. Always Oscar. Listen to the Wind was written by Vivian Ellis in 1955. Governesses, pirates worrying about lumpy porridge, mermaids, naughty gale birds, Christmas and rock 'n 'roll all contribute to the delights of Vivian Ellis's musical play for children. Originally presented in London at the Arts Theatre in December 1955. A remarkable letter by Hammerstein to a fellow musical genius.
