London: Bradbury, Agnew, & Co. Ld., 1854. Copyright date 1854, first edition, Burgundy cloth over boards with blind stamped title and illustration on the front cover. No tears bent pages previous owners name written on the inside flyleaf. This book came from the estate of Academy Award and Emmy winning, movie and stage star and actor icon, Jack Palance. Affixed on the upper right-hand corner of the inside flyleaf is a very collectible "Jack Palance Collection 2006 " bookplate from the auction that took place in October 2006 at Jack Palance's huge ranch in Drum, Pennsylvania. 17 engravings on steel beautifully hand colored, with captions, wide margins all around and printed on one side of the thicker special paper, and ideal for framing-one of the hand colored steel engravings is on the title page. The book has bumps to the corners and to the top and bottom of the spine some fraying at the spine ends. There is a there is a 1 1/2, staining or darkening at the bottom of the front cover. The titling and pictorials on the front cover and spine have rubbing and the colors are quite muted, especially on the spine. Please see photos. Interior pages shows some soiling also foxing. Top, foredge and bottom Pages are not cut. Despite some soiling to some pages the text is still bright, with a tight binding, a very solid collectible book. . 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Fair/no dust Jacket. Illus. by John Leech. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Hand Painted Plates.
