Over the years, Cook was a farmhand, miner, saloon-keeper, soldier, city marshal of Denver, sheriff of Arapahoe County, U.S. marshal, major general of Colorado Militia, and most importantly founder and chief of the Rocky Mountain Detect ive Association (a semi-secret and unofficial organization of sheriffs, police chiefs and marshalls).
