About This Item
London And Melbourne: Ward, Lock & Co, 1921 1921 New Revised Edition, Red Boards With Faded Spine, Some Staining To Front Board. Some Foxing, Gift Inscription Christmas 1921 On Ffep. Uniquely, There Are Typed Tipped In "Updates" Throughout. My Father Had A Similar Book, "1001 Things A Boy Can Do," And What Is Immediately Apparent Is The Scope And Complexity Of The Activities, Probably Intimidating To Most Adults, Let Alone To Schoolboys. The Two Items I Remember From My Father's Book Were (1) A Boutonnière Holder Made By Melting And Shaping A Glass Toothbrush Container So That It Could Be Filled With Water And Then Inserted Into A Jacket Button Hole So That The Rose/Carnation You Placed In It Would Stay Fresh All Day And (2) An Iceboat, Basically A Sailboat On Runners, Perhaps 12 Feet Long. Similarly In This Book, As The Editor Explains, The Focus Is On 'Utility, Rather Than Mere Play.' A Picture Is Painted Of A Boy Who Is 'Glad To Be Useful.' Prolifically Illustrated With Diagrams, Engravings And Photographs.
