Another version, published the same year by Wells & Co. in Portland, Oregon is said to be the first printing. Light speckling to covers, contents generally foxed as is common with this edition, pencil notations in margin on several pages, front inner hinge neatly reinforced, else G+. The author says he was born in Cape Vincent, New York in 1849 and ran away at age 14. He had many interesting adventures in the west, claiming to have known Calamity Jane and to have been present when Wild Bill Hickok was killed. Howes 27. Six Guns 2466. Inscribed on ffep from someone at the Goodwill Hotel in Tacoma to "those brave, heroic men who are going forth to blot out the 'Beast of Berlin.'" The author recalls Indian Territory, Ft. Dodge, Ft. Laramie, the Sioux, "Unwritten history of the Custer massacre," Montana, Custer City, Deadwood, Portland, & much more. Adams cites many errors, but it's salty reading. Vg. 6-guns 2466, Howes Y27.
