Markham, Ontario: Markham, ON: Scholastic Canada - School Market Edition, 1997 ( actually 2000 ), 1st Canadian Softcover Edition, First Printing, 2000. -----------trade paperback, this is the 1st Canadian softcover edition preceding the Raincoast softcover by many years, about 5w x 7.75h inches, a Very Good+ copy of the CANADIAN SCHOLASTIC SCHOOL MARKET EDITION, ---a wee bit of very light rubbing, Dumbledore on rear panel and spine thumbnail is the young magician which was later replaced with the more traditional older Headmaster, this early edition contains two errors which only occur in very early printings of this book: Line 1, page 8 has "highchair" instead of "high chair"; and on page 53 in the list of "Other Equipment" needed for Hogwart's School, " 1 wand " is listed twice ---errors that were corrected in later printings, as well this has Joanne Rowling on the copyright page which was later changed to J K Rowling,--- a complicated publishing history in Canada which is still not 100% figured out but here's what can be said, ---- Raincoast acquired the rights to the Harry Potter books well after the publication of Philosophers Stone in other parts of the world ( 1997 in the UK / 1998 in the USA by SCHOLASTIC USA, etc ), KidsBooks Bookstore in British Columbia placed the 1st order in Canada for Philosophers Stone in December 1998 but that was with Bloomsbury Books in England, at this point ( late 1998 / early 1999 ) there is no Canadian edition of STONE in hardcover or softcover, in 1999 Raincoast printed Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkabhan in hardcover (the frenzy was on !), Raincoast inquired about the CDN rights to STONE in late 1998 which they secured via auction and subsequently printed a CDN edition of STONE in 2000, this is why all CDN hardcover editions of STONE show other titles by JKR as the rights for STONE were acquired after the publication of books 2, 3 and 4, all of the hc copies of STONE that I have seen list books 2, 3 and 4 ( Goblet of Fire - it was also released in 2000, the same year as the CDN STONE), WorldCat states 2000 for the CDN edition of STONE, the SCHOLASTIC CANADA edition states 1997 on the copyright page but as in the RC edition it lists books 2, 3 and 4 on the list of other books by JKR so it has to be from 2000, the question now is was the RC edition the 1st publication of STONE in Canada or was the Scholastic edition the 1st publication of STONE in Canada, and just to confuse things a little more there are 2 SCHOLASTIC softcover editions (both have 1997 on the copyright page) ---a school market edition as stated on the copyright page and an issue which lists hardcover and softcover editions (I have seen a 2nd printing of the softcover version which did not state SCHOOL MARKET EDITION but I have not seen a CDN SCHOLASTIC hardcover edition in any printing (which may not even exist ), nonetheless the Canadian SCHOLASTIC edition is the 1st CDN softcover edition preceding the Raincoast softcover publication by many years, scarce, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo ///NOT SIGNED ---GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE///. Frontispiece, illustrations, lists 25 titles at the back. The dust jacket has minor edgewear and chipping, the spine panels are faded, and there is a previous owner's name and date in ink on the front endpapers. "Tarzan throws off his three year cloak of civilization, and with a yell and a bound, is back at home again among the beasts of the Jungle, plunging into a series of adventures, so startling, exciting, and hair-raising that one gasps with astonishment. In the present story, powerful enemies first kidnap his young son, then abduct Tarzan himself and leave him marooned on the African coast. Here his early training serves him in good stead; he makes himself king of the jungle and eventually foils his enemies, and returns with his rescued wife and child to England". Illustrations by J.
