The Viking Press, 1959. Hardcover. Acceptable/Acceptable. 1959. First Edition. 246 pages. Pictorial dust jacket over blue and yellow cloth. Pages are lightly tanned with occasional speckles of foxing throughout. Some brown stained marking to page edges. Text is unaffected. Small pen inscription to front pastedown. Cracking to page 24 and 120 with some visible binding. Binding is shaky, however all pages remain attached. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Soft crushing to spine ends. Book is notably bowed and forward leaning. Moderate sunning to spine and edges. Some brown water staining to front board and spine. Minor white marking to front board. Unclipped jacket has heavy edge wear with some areas of loss, heavy tears, chips and creasing. Moderate water staining, more visible to insides. Blue pen marking to rear. Dark rubbing overall.

Synopsis

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is widely considered one of the best literary ghost stories published during the twentieth century. The novel has been adapted to film twice — in 1963 and again in 1999 — both times under the title The Haunting . The Gothic tale tells the story of socially repressed Eleanor Vance and three others who head to Hill House to partake in an experiment involving paranormal activities.
