The Viking Press, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. 246 pages. Yellow and blue cloth, with black titles at spine and at spinal margin of front panel. Cloth toned, lightly rubbed to extremities, with spine toned a little more than the rest and the spine tips lightly bumped. Spine cocked forward. Binding sound. Dust jacket toned, scuffed, with light to moderate edgewear, including very minor chipping at fore-edge corners and light crease running parallel to top edge of front. DJ spine slightly lightened, faint drink ring to rear cover. DJ protected in Mylar, cover price $3.95. Grey topstain to textblock. Tape ghosts at top and bottom edges of both the front and back FEPs; faint discoloration also at center FFEP. Pages else clean; lightly toned to margins; text unmarked. Housed in custom blue cloth slipcase with light soil and shelf-wear.

Synopsis

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is widely considered one of the best literary ghost stories published during the twentieth century. The novel has been adapted to film twice — in 1963 and again in 1999 — both times under the title The Haunting . The Gothic tale tells the story of socially repressed Eleanor Vance and three others who head to Hill House to partake in an experiment involving paranormal activities.
