Fine large albumen photograph of Princess Likelike, late 19th c. copyprint after the original by Honolulu photographer J.J. Williams (although this image has sometimes been credited to Menziers Dickson). HRH Miriam Kapili Likelike Kekaukuohi (1851 -- 1887) was the sister of King David Kalakaua and Mother of Crown - Princess Victoria Kauilani Kalaninuiahilakalapa Kawekiu-i-Lunalilo. Princess Likelike was raised in Hilo but came to Honolulu with the court. She was known for her songs and poetry. 8 x 7" image mounted on 11 x 8"page. Illustrated with numerous reproductions of photographs of life on the Hawaiian Islands. Subject include Queen Liliuokalani, recreation being enjoyed by young Hawaiian boys, landscape scenery, and the imperialist, Sanford Dole. A colonial view of Hawaii, capturing the islands' transition from independence to becoming a U.S. territory. A Good or better example with light soiling and wear to the cloth and the front hinge showing a minute crack but holding strong.
