Description:
Bungay: C Brightley and T Kinnersley, 1804 First edition in 2 volumes comprehensively illustrated with high quality plates and maps. The Reverend Blomfield drew on a variety of sources, eg Oliver Goldsmith, Bruce to produce a work which covers a wide range of topics including 'animated nature', astronomy, geology and 'mathematical geography' as well as a tour of the world as it was known then. Blomfield clearly wanted to produce a work that was so comprehensive that it was the only work that anyone would need to read on those subjects. The plate listing only refers to around half the plates and maps. Both volumes retain the original marbled boards which are rubbed, and have new pigskin leather spines and corners and new endpapers. The spines do not have labels. Volume I, 827 pp, contains frontispiece, vignette title page, preface, text covering geology, nature, europe, and much else, and 9 full page engravings, 10 full page maps, 1 folding map and 1 folding chart. Volume II, dated…

1769 1ed Charlevoix History of Paraguay Jesuit Missionary Voyages Brazil TribesPierre Charlevoix's 'History of Paraguay' is a valuable history of the Jesuit missionary voyages to South America. It includes extensive descriptions on Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, and parts of Argentina with information about local tribes. Perhaps Cox's description of the work is the most telling of its value:
"The most complete and satisfactory work on Paraguay, and the only one in which the vast system of the Jesuits is fully developed, the position of the author affording him peculiar opportunities for its examination."

Description:
1821, London, first edition in English. Modern fine binding of half leather and marbled boards by Starr Bookworks. An underappreciated volume likely due to this first English translation. The modern translator, Seeber, describes this translation as the "product of a prosaic and incompetent literary hack" (please tell us how you really feel). It also omits about 40% of the original work leaving out daily interactions with Americans, Native Americans, and the most colorful events. Condition is Very Good: modern fine binding is excellent. Interior has scattered foxing and toning, no writing or old ownership marks. Marginal pencil mark on final page. Frontis edge conserved. Paginates: frontis, [2], 102, 5 plates, modern blanks. Six plates total. Other engravings in text. The Mammoth Skeleton plate is a modern copy. The frontis is a fairly spectacular aquatint of New York harbor. Copies with color plates are uncommon. See Howes M757. Please see images of the book you will receive. Feel free to inquire.…
