Illus., text somewhat darkened & foxed, DJ worn and chipped: several pieces missing, DJ spine missing, DJ in plastic sleeve. Signed by the author. This fifth volume in the Betsy-Tacy series, about two best friends in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, finds Betsy and Tacy as freshmen at the Deep Valley High School in 1906. The books in the series (which follow Betsy-Tacy until Betsy's early twenties) increase in reading difficulty, so that the child reader can growup with Betsy-Tacy. This volume was illustrated by Vera Neville.
