Description:
John Bowyer Nichols and Sons, 1863-1874. Hardcover. Good++/No Dust Jacket. Hardcover 8 volume set in 3/4 leather, publishing dates between 1863 and 1874. Beautiful matching red leather spine and tips with red cloth boards ruled in gold. Title and decorations in gold on spine between raised bands.Spines are sun darkened. Boards show varying amounts of sun fade, edge wear and soil. Some frayed edges and rubbing. All edges gilt, with some scuffing/rubbing/soil. Very nice marbleized endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate on inside paste downs of each volume. A second previous owner's name and title has been stamped in ink on the same bookplate and also on blank second free endpapers of each volume. This owner was Theodore J. Preston, Deputy Inspector General, Royal Navy. The stamp reads Theodore J. Preston, Dep. Insp. General, R. N.. Text pages are clean. In very nice condition for it' s age. Always carefully wrapped and shipped in cardboard boxes to protect your purchase.
