About This Item
The Pynson Printers, New York., 1938. First edition. Small quarto. 40 pages. Title-page drawing and five drawings in the text by Donald McKay. Cloth-backed decorated paper boards with spine title-label. Printed on Italian hand-made paper. ''A mid-Western tale'' of a former Civil War drummer boy. There is no statement of limitation, but probably there were about 300 copies printed, for Christmas giving. [From the library of Frederick B. Adams, Jr., of the Pierpoint Morgan Library and the Grolier Club etc, who together with Elmer Adler of the Pynson Printers, was responsible for the production of the book].Signed by the author on the presentation page, though no name is written in the space provided for the presentee's name. Laid in is a Christmas card, bearing the printed legend: ''The Season's Greetings and Best Wishes for the New Year - Irene and MacKinlay Kantor''.Covers a bit rubbed at the edges. Very good indeed in remains of plain tissue wrapper.
