by Peter Longueville

Condition: Fair to Good

A charming early publication of a popular tale relating a fictitious British hermit's escape and life on a deserted island off the coast of Mexico. The book remained anonymous until 1727 when a rare edition containing a dedication signed Peter Longueville was discovered and to whom the writing is now attributed. This publication is a seventh edition printed in London for the Booksellers. The first fly page is hand written "Levi Willis His Book 1776", followed by a titled engraving then another hand printed notation reading "Levi Willis His Book Jan 14, 1815".
Some believe this book (which was probably first published in the late 1600's) was the inspiration for Robinson Crusoe -- there are enough similarities to give validity to this theory.
