A new chocolate ice product from America advertised in Amsterdam.

- Lithographed poster - André Vlaanderen (1881-1955). Het nieuwste snufje uit Amerika: Norico, choco-glace. Amsterdamsche Banketbakkers IJscompagnie (IJsco). Fine lithograph in colour. (Amsterdam, ca. 1928-1929). 67 x 36 cm.

Very rare poster, no other copy found. Sadly I could not yet find information about this new chocolate ice, allegedly invented in America. However the story of the 'IJscompagnie' has been well documented. The 'IJscompagnie' (= Ice Company) was a brand name of a company of confectioners who operated ice cream carts. This name was shortened into 'IJsco' and became the household name in the Netherlands for ice sold in scoops. The oldest Dutch 'IJscompagnie' was probably that of Amsterdam. The newspaper 'De Courant' of August 28, 1913 mentions on that day the opening of a vanilla ice factory by the 'N.V. Automatische IJscompagnie der Amsterdamsche Banketbakkers' at the Oudezijds Voorburgwal 320, in Amsterdam. The poster designer André Vlaanderen (Amsterdam 1881- Bruges 1955) was a Dutch graphic artist, known for his many advertisement designs. After his education at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunst in Amsterdam, he worked as a graphic designer for the wellknown architect Eduard Cuypers from 1899 to 1905. After 1905 he started successfully his own bussines, making posters, all kinds of advertising material, bookdesigns, etcetera. In 1929 he moved to Belgium (Ghent and Bruges). - Very tiny retouches in outer lower corners, vague former fold in middle, backed with Chinese paper. - Good copy.

PROVENANCE: From the estate of the artist; thence by descent. - Cf. Newspaper article by Ewoud Sanders: https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/1995/07/20/waarom-een-ijsco-ijsco-heet-7275008-a1087667 and article by Roland de Bonth: https://neerlandistiek.nl/2021/05/met-de-y-van-ysco/

Bright blue silhouette image of Churchill, smoking cigar, printed on white background. No date or no artist named. Page just a little creased but overall a very good bright example. Published by Churchill's election campaign manager for the 1959 general election, the last that Churchill stood in. An interesting poster for the time. With no text and just a bold one colour silhouette the poster relies on an instantly recognisable image to get it's message across.

Description:
1634 Restitution of Decayed Intelligence WEREWOLVES Pied Piper Saxony Verstegen
Richard Rowlands, also known as Verstegen, was a late 16th-century historian who is best-known for his book "Restitution of Decayed Intelligence". First written in 1605, this book focused on the Protestant monarchy in England, its influence, and the reign of King James. However, even though this book discusses the 16th-century England, it was clearly written to praise the early Saxons which is evident by the glossary of Anglo-Saxon words (which is more than half the book).
While all of those historical matters are pertinent and desirable to this book, the most curious draw of this work is Verstegen's descriptions of werewolves!
"The werewolves are certayne sorcerers, not only unto the view of others they seem as wolves, but to their own thinking they have both the shape and nature of wolves."
It also includes a description of the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
