Fine and rare print with a large engraving by the artist and engraver Jan Smit (1726-1807), depicting the riot at the Amsterdam Dam during the public execution of the two instigators of the so-called 'Pachtersoproer' (Tenants revolt) on 25 June 1748. The Tenants revolt of 1748 was a rebellion in several Dutch cities. The uprisings were not only directed against the high taxes and prices, but also against the situation that public offices were sold by the state to the highest bidder. It is seen as one of the precursors of the Batavian revolution. - Very good copy.
