About This Item
New York: G. P. Putnam & Sons, 1962. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good+. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. True First Edition, meeting all edition points stated in the Levack bibliography: Code D36 on lower left margin of page 239, no date on the title page, bound in black cloth with red lettering on the front cover & spine, with the top page-edge stained yellow. Won the 1963 Hugo for Best Novel. Number 37 in Pringle's Science Fiction 100 Best. A landmark novel of Speculative Fiction and Alternate Histories. The book is in a tight boxed binding. There is minor staining to a portion of the top page-edge that bleeds to the top edge of both the inner front pastedown and first & last endpaper. The stain is not bad. There is also a faint residue (glue?) on the upper edge of the front board, seen only when held in certain light. Other than that, the book shows only light shelfwear with only light bumping to the spine ends and corners. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with only faint shelfwear seen most at the lower edge of the spine and rear panel. On the INSIDE of the dj (facing book), there is some soiling and 2 peel marks and the spine ends. This is not at all visible on the forward facing side of the dj. The artwork is still bright and unfaded. SEE IMAGES and please ask any clarifying question. This flaw aside, the dj is still visually pleasing and covered with a brodart. The book is preserved in an acid-free archival bag. Gift or collection quality.

Reviews
On Mar 2 2015, a reader said:
Alternate history doesn't get any better than in this Philip K. Dick novel. Set in the then-contemporary world of 1962, it chronicles the lives of its characters in an America that had lost World War II and was divided into Japanese and German zones of occupation. Dick uses this setting to explore many of his standard themes about the nature of reality, but this is done within the framework of an enjoyable story that is never less than entertaining.
