Poul Anderson's novel High Crusade first appeared in print when it was serialized in the July, August, and September 1960 of Astounding Science Fact & Fiction with cover art (July) and 14 interior illustrations by H. R. Van Dongen. Finalist for the 1961 Hugo Award for Best Novel. An alien starship lands in medieval England, and carries a group of knights off into space. These rough-and-ready chaps eventually succeed in conquering the interstellar empire. A fondly remembered romp which celebrates the human spirit. Adapted into a wargame by TSR in 1983 and into a Monty Pythonesque motion picture in 1994.
These are the last issues published under the "Astounding" name as the title morphed into "Analog": July was the last issue with "Astounding" on the spine. September was the last issue with "Astounding" on the cover.
