A Highlander Looks Back is the autobiography of the famous Sutherland piper Angus MacPherson (1877–1976). He was also an expert angler, seanachaidh (bard), innkeeper and sheep farmer.
This is the third and final edition. The first two were self-published, printed in very small quantities and sold out very quickly. In 1970, MacPherson added to it and updated it, then the Oban Times published it. It became a bit of a best-seller but there were no further printings and there are now few copies in existence.
This copy was purchased by William and Jean Sinclair, of Bonar Bridge, Sutherland, who signed the inside front cover. They then gave it to another famous piper, Pipe-Major Edmund Esson, of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. When Esson met MacPherson, MacPherson signed the book for him. And when Esson died in 1981, his widow gave it to the current owner, his former pipe-sergeant, who noted this on the front endpaper (in pencil).
As you can see, there is quite a lot of wear to the dust jacket, particularly on the spine. The book itself is perfect; aside from darkening of the paper, it is in mint condition.
