Calgary, Alberta: Canadian Shorthorn Association, 1982. 256 pages. Notes, index. Historical photographs. Bound in tan flecked paper over boards, gilt titling (and call letters in gilt ink) on spine, otherwise clean and bright. Tight binding, square spine, clean throughout save for library stamps to prelims, endpapers and edges. Apparently the book belonged to the Centralia College of Agriculture and then to the county library, but was virtually uncirculated. Quite fresh with no signs of wear. Similar dust jacket, slightly sunned on spine, no spine label. "In Canada the Durham or Shorthorn became for all practical purposes the universal breed. Settlers and homesteaders were on the best of terms with the big-framed red, roan and white cows that supplied dairy products, steers to be marketed at two or three years of age, and oxen... a written record of the breed in its sweep of more than 150 years in Canada [to] bring fresh purpose and enthusiasm, a source of inspiration and incentive, for young breeders and older ones." -- dj.. Hard Cover. Good to Very Good/Very Good. Illus. by Photographs. 6 x 9.25 in. (15cm x 23.5cm). Ex-Library.

Winnipeg: Grant MacEwan 1982. (Hardcover) Near fine in near fine dust jacket. 256pp. Photographs, illustrations, notes, index. "In carrying the gospel of agricultural improvement to far parts of the world, Britain's farmers had no more effective AIDS than the Shorthorn cattle of England and Scotland. In Canada, the Durham or Shorthorn became for all practical purposes the universal breed. Settlers and homesteaders were on the best of terms with the big-framed red, roan and white cows that unstintingly supplied dairy products for family tables, cream or butter to be traded at groceries, steers to be marketed at two or three years of age, and oxen of the biggest and most dependable kinds". Book about Shorthorn--Cows. Locale: Prairie Provinces; Western Canada. (Natural History, Agriculture, Cattle Industry, Cows, Pioneer Life, Settlement--Canada).
