The first edition of this illustrated account of Charles Bruce's life on the Himalayas, Bruce being the man who led the second and third British expeditions to Mount Everest. The first edition of this work. With a frontispiece, and fifteen plates. Collated, complete. This work recounts Charles Bruce's experiences on his expeditions to the Himalayas, and offers an amusing look at his life during his twenty years spent in the Himalayas. Most of the book is focussed on Bruce's time in the North-West Frontier, whilst he was in the Indian Army. Due to Bruce's vast experiences in the Himalayas, this work is rich with detail. It also shows the attitudes during the British Empire, and the state of politics in India during this time, with comments on Indian culture. The first chapter in this work detail the first twenty-two years of his life, noting his family and what led him into the Army, and onto his expeditions. Written by Charles Granville Bruce, who was a Himalayan veteran, and the leader of the second and third British expeditions to Mount Everest in 1922 and 1924. He joined the Indian Army in 1888. The first edition of this illustrated work by Charles Bruce. Condition: In the original publisher's cloth binding Externally, smart. Light fading to the spine. A few minor marks to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed.
