Paris: Guéin & Prault, 1775 12mo. Three volumes, frontispiece in Vol. I. Finely bound in contemporary brown mottled calf, five raised bands to spines, compartments decorated in gilt, dark brown morocco spine labels lettered in gilt, text block edges red, blue and red marbled endpapers. About very good with some wear to extremities, some hinges starting in Vol. I and II, still generally sturdy, interior very clean. Duclos' first serious publication, Histoire de Louis XI is a straightforward, non-fiction account of the life of King Louis XI. Known as "Louis the Prudent", Louis XI served as King of France from 1461 to 1483. Duclos, a writer and historian, was a member of the Académie Française, and a fellow of the Royal Society of London.. Hard Cover. Very Good.

Et Fessard sculp."); 17 cm. Contemporary full polished calf; six spine compartments between raised bands. Gilt-tooled leather labels in second and third compartments with title and volume numbers. Gilt-tooled decoration in remaining spine compartments and on board edges. All page edges speckled red. Woodcut title vignettes, head-pieces, and tail-pieces. Sometimes attributed to the abbé Joachim Legrand, whose notes are said to have been used by Duclos (cf. Quérard, La France Littéraire). Includes index. Front fixed endpaper bears armorial bookplate with the motto: "Aedes Carthusianae in usum Carthusianorum" and an added label indicating that the books were donated by G.J. Allen, Carthusiani in 1880.
