Engraved title with shipping & battle scenes + folding Map of the Low Countries by by Frans Hogenberg + 22 copperplate portraits many folding + fine engraved title to 2nd Work.. 2 WORKS IN ONE VOLUME folio near contemporary calf blindstamped monogram crowned HL, spine overall gilt on raised bands (spine repaired at top compartment and lower hinge, corners & hinges worn but sound) [8]pp +623pp +[1]p blank (collates as V & A Libraries copy which catalogue attributes to 1598 from STC Dutch 1470-1600 and Antwerp place of publication: many pagination errors but collated A-Hhh in 6's except Fff in 4 with correct catchword. The first 3 pages of portraits have 2 busts each thereafter all are single full page portraits often with fore-edge folded back. All have text on the other side of the leaf. Second Work (BELLI CIVILIS IN BELGIO per quadraginta fere continuos annos gesti Historia ed. by Gaspar Ens) also without imprint but dated 1610, Titlepage +[2]pp to reader +502pp. double column text with side notes. Fine armorial bookplate Henry Edward Bunbury and another bookplate on pastedown, a few bibliographic annotations in pencil, one page has a torn piece 3x1.3" lost from the margin just affecting side-notes not text, else whole contents of the 2 Works in VG condition. *First edition of the 1st Work in Latin (preceeded by unauthorised German edition and followed by the author's own edition in Dutch).
