Moguntiae (Mainz): Simones Beckenstein, 1679. Hardcover. Very Good. Large copperplate printer's device on titlepage with Beckenstein's mongram S B, motto Inexscrutabilia & emblematic symbols. . Folio newer half black morocco on 5 raised bands spine titled in gilt and marbled paper sides. Half title + title +[28]pp prelims +585pp +16pp index + Henry Valesius' Annotations 209pp +[6]pp index. Text in parallel Greek & Latin in 2 columns. Pale foxing throughout but a very neat tight copy. With neat Latin gift inscrition dated 1938 to George Arthur Fressanges on blank page before half title. *Theodoret was a leading theologian who played a pivotal role in early Byzantine church controversies. Also included are further works on the early church by Scholasticus Evagrius, Philostorgius and Theodore Lector, with dissertations by Lucas Holstenius. Valesius (Henri de Valois 1603-1676) edited them using original source materials and codices.
