A well-written general history of the early development of the West, with much emphasis on the Missouri River Valley. Contains much of interest on the Dakotas, Indian wars, early explorations up the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers, the Astoria expedition, the fur trade from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Northwest, George Catlin, etc. Scarce. A fine copy.
