(Subject: Regimental & Unit Histories - General) The 5th owed their origins to the turbulent times of the ‘Glorious Revolution’ of 1688. They were raised as ‘James Wynne’s Dragoons’ & took part in the successful defences of Derry & Enniskillen, & the Battles of the Boyne & Aughram. They fought with the Duke of Marlborough at Blenheim, Ramillies, Oudenarde & Malplaquet &, in 1858 they took part in the relief of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny. They formed part of the NIle Expedition of 1884, the attempt to save Gordon of Khartoum from the Mahdi. Their final campaign was the Boer War, in which they took part in the defence of Ladysmith. This fine regimental history is superbly reproduced with 17 fine colour plates, 20 black & white illustrations, plus 10 maps.
