Later half blue morocco, fore and bottom edges uncut. First editions, each of 250 copies from an edition of 303. By Philadelphia numismatist, philologist and translator (1838-1895), for many years either secretary, curator or librarian of the American Philosophical Society. DAB says his "studies were accepted as authoritative." The first volume treats the paper money of New Jersey, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Vermont.
