Raleigh, NC: E. M. Uzzell, 1901. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Thick Octavos. 5 Volume Set. xiv, (2), 783; (4), 807; (4), 761; iv, 772; (2), xxvi, 859 pages. Hardcovers bound in the original grey publisher's cloth. The bindings show some soiling from handling and darkening to the spines. In Volumes 1 and 2, the rear inner hinges are cracking with muslin exposed. The inner hinges on the other volumes are generally sound. Several volumes have dark finger smudging on the front covers. There is a small Historical Society ink stamp on each of the title pages. Volume 3 has some fairly heavy underlining on pages 125-157 (the section on the Forty-Ninth Regiment). The rest of the text in that volume and in the other volumes appears clean. Illustrated with photos and maps.

The binding shows moderate wear. Prior owner's signature on the front flyleaf. The front inner hinge is just starting, and the rear inner hinge appears sound. The gutter is cracking between pages 304 and 305, and there is a corresponding crease line in the cloth on the spine. The text shows sporadic foxing. Volume Five is the volume with the Index for the entire set.

Bound in grey cloth with gilt titles and red white and blue flag design on the front boards. Light shelf wear, mostly at the tips. Preliminaries starting to fox. Rear end paper with a news-clipping pinned to it, with discoloration. Hinges reinforced with Japan paper on Vols. 3, 4, & 5. Nevins I- 70:.
